My Adventures at Harold Studio
May 26, 2014
I have currently been taking silversmithing classes at
Harold Studio, a cute and artistic jewelry studio in Phoenix. While I have been in the jewelry business for the past 15+ years and designing my own jewelry for the past 5 years, this has been a new experience. I am ready to grow as a jewelry artist and add the label
benchwork jeweler to my repertoire. In our first few classes we learned the basics of the jewelers saw and how to use rivets to connect two pieces metal together.
While cutting out two earrings with a teeny tiny saw blade takes some patience (okay, a lot of patience) it is rather satisfying when you finally finish. Of course, that is just the beginning. There is filing, polishing, texturing and finish work that still needs to be done... but you can see your vision coming to life, which is pretty cool. This little sterling silver and copper winged bird was my riveting project. I think he needs some little friends in the form of earrings, what do you think?
I'll keep documenting my journey at Harold Studio. Thursday is now known as my ' studio day ', and I look forward to creating and learning every week, and sharing that process with all of you!
